Our History

After the Macao Transition, and the fears and anxieties inherent in a new cycle were overcome, the need to create a structure that allowed the defense and promotion of the interests of the Portuguese living in the Territory and fulfilled the mission of spreading Portuguese culture in a scenario in which it was imposed that it continues to take center stage alongside Chinese culture, contributing to the preservation of Macao’s identity in a unique place where cultures meet.

Believing that the Portuguese and Portuguese presence, active in economic, social and cultural life, was decisive for maintaining the uniqueness of the Territory and for the defense of its intangible heritage, on June 1, 2001 the Casa de Portugal was created in Macau

Being a non-profit association made up of Portuguese residents and friends from all nations, it aims to promote, disseminate and defend the Portuguese language and culture, heritage and identity of Macau Active since 2008 Actively participates in the Chinese New Year Parade, at the Macao Arts Festival, on the celebrations of the 25th of April, the 10th of June and the 5th of October, at the Arraial de S. João, at the Cultural Week of Portuguese Speaking Countries, at the Lusophone Festival, at the Fringe Festival and at the Parade of December 20, among other events, establishing partnerships with public and private entities.

Participates actively in the Chinese New Year Parade, at the Macao Arts Festival, on the celebrations of April 25, June 10 and October 5, at Arraial de S. João, at the Cultural Week of Portuguese Speaking Countries, at the Festival of Lusofonia, at the Fringe Festival and at the Parade on the 20th of December, among other events, establishing partnerships with public and private entities.

Casa de Portugal is strongly committed to contributing to the development of the creative industries with workshops in Ceramics, Tiles, Jewelry, Painting, Screen Printing, Engraving, Drawing, Porcelain Painting, Photography, and Puppets as well as Musical Training Centers covering teaching Saxophone, Clarinet, Classical guitar, Electric guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocal technique, and Combo.

It also develops professional training in different areas such as Informatics, Multimedia, Sewing, Design, Decoupage and Binding, among other plastic arts techniques and activities for seniors.

In terms of physical and psychological well-being, he regularly holds classes in Yoga, Maintenance, Physical Condition for Seniors, Postural Alignment and Moderate Exercise and TRX.

Also devoted to youth, Casa de Portugal has invested in the teaching of Performing Arts, Creative Workshops and Summer Camps (Easter and Summer) that cover a wide range of educational and recreational activities, among other programs developed in partnership. with local schools (tutored by DSEJ and private).

Both the trainees and the trainers from the different valences have regularly participated in local shows and events aimed at the cultural, recreational and tourist promotion of Macao.

Through the Sports Club, he participates in the Football championships at different levels and promotes the training of new athletes in his soccer school.

In 2011, Macao SAR honored Casa de Portugal in Macau with the Cultural Merit Medal, recognizing the work carried out by the Association.
