History of CPM

After the transition of Macau, and having overcome the fears and anxieties inherent in a new cycle, the need arose to create a structure that would allow the interests of the Portuguese living in the Territory to be defended and promoted, and to fulfil the mission of promoting Portuguese culture in a scenario where it continues to play a leading role alongside Chinese culture, contributing to the preservation of Macau's identity as a unique place where cultures meet.

In the belief that the presence of the Portuguese and the Portuguese, active in the economic, social and cultural life, was crucial to maintaining the uniqueness of the Territory and to protecting its intangible heritage, the Casa de Portugal in Macau was created in 2001.

As a non-profit association made up of Portuguese residents and friends from all nations, its objectives are to promote, disseminate and defend the Portuguese language and culture, the heritage and identity of Macau, as well as the dissemination of Chinese culture, which it achieves through exhibitions, shows, festivals, publications, video productions, and artistic education provided at the School of Arts and Crafts, which has been in operation since 2008, among other activities.

It actively participates in the Chinese New Year Parade, the Macau Arts Festival, the celebrations of 25 April, 10 June and 5 October, the Arraial de S. João, the Cultural Week of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, the Lusophony Festival, the Fringe Festival and the 20 December Parade, among other events, establishing partnerships with public and private entities.

Casa de Portugal is strongly committed to contributing to the development of creative industries, with workshops in Ceramics, Tiles, Jewellery, Painting, Screen Printing, Engraving, Drawing, Porcelain Painting, Photography and Puppetry, as well as Music Training Centres covering the teaching of Saxophone, Clarinet, Classical Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocal Technique and Combo.

It also provides professional training in different areas such as IT, Multimedia, Sewing, Design, Decoupage and Bookbinding, among other fine arts techniques and activities for seniors.

In terms of physical and psychological well-being, it regularly holds classes in Yoga, Maintenance, Pilates, Physical Conditioning for Seniors, Postural Alignment and Moderate Exercise and TRX.

Also aimed at young people, Casa de Portugal has invested in teaching Performing Arts, Creative Workshops and Holiday Camps (Easter and Summer) which cover a varied set of educational and recreational activities, among other programs developed in partnership with local schools (supervised by DSEDJ and private schools).
