Exhibition "The World in My Lens", by Manuel Figueiredo

I met Manuel Figueiredo on the occasion of a photography workshop that I had the pleasure of conducting in 2024, an initiative of the Casa de Portugal em Macau (CPM). At that time, Manuel's response to the visual exercises surprised me, either for the freshness in his approach to the subject matter and for the visual results he achieved, of relevant aesthetic and compositional value.

It was, therefore, with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation of CPM and Manuel Figueiredo to support him in the Curatorship of his first solo photographic exhibition, now on display at Casa de Vidro. The 22 photographs on display are the result of a mutual selection from a wide range of images. These transport us to the universe of visual interests and photographic composition that Manuel already shows, as well as allowing us to observe how he knew to interpret and highlight places and people from diverse geographies that, fortunately, he had the chance to visit and observe.

From this set of images, the importance already shown by Manuel in his search for records with a multiplicity of visual planes that give an added value to the photographic record of what he observed, highlighted by the importance of the perspective and the focal point in the composition of the image, stand out. On the other hand, the singularity achieved in the way he approaches the human figure is remarkable, particularly in close-up portraits, where he captures visual expressions of great simplicity and meaning.

In summary, the sensitivity and value that Manuel Figueiredo already shows in his visual records foreshadow great future successes in this world of photography that he will certainly continue to explore and deepen.
